so today i came home to a phone message from my bro telling me to call "as soon as i got home" and i immediately thought, "oh, no, riley." but it wasn't about riley.

apparently my dad was on his way to a doctor's appt this morning and was riding his harley (cuz it was a beautiful spring day). i guess there was an accident at an intersection so my dad was slowing down or stopped, i'm not sure which. anyways, the guy behind him didn't notice and rear-ended my dad. he ended up flipping off the bike, landing on his head, with the bike landing on his leg. the helmet took most of the hit but he ended up breaking the second vertabrae in his neck. other than that, just banged up pretty badly. since the police and ambulance were already there for the other accident, he was attended to really quickly. they took him to the hospital there but when they realized it was a head/neck injury they flew him to rochester. they've put a "halo" on him, which is basically screwed into his head behind his ears and his forehead. so he can't move his neck or anything. my brother said he needs to wear it for 10 weeks!

so i'm going to see him tomorrow, they're planning to discharge him sometime tomorrow but...it seems kinda weird to just be sending him home... my brother said that he's doing good but please pray anyways just for everything. thanks!

So thru myspace, sometimes local people/bands contact you to add them to your friend list. normally i check out the person's myspace and then just 'reject' them. so today this guy jason silver popped up on mine. it turns out he's christian and the music director of philpott church in hamilton. anyways, his music's really good so check it out. http://www.jasonsilver.com/

what's done is done...

well as some of you may remember today was the day. my perm took not 1, not 2, not 3 but FOUR HOURS! Drago, my english-challenged stylist was NOT as adept as i could have hoped. it took him about an hour to do the first 5 rollers. no joke. he kept dropping the hair and the papers and the rollers all over the place. for a moment i thought i was on some sort of candid camera show...for real. thankfully it's over now. and my head has stopped throbbing- the rollers were so freakin tight. and for bein the first day (the worst day) it's not that bad. maybe i'll post a pic when it calms down a bit:D

anyhoo... go here and tell me about myself!

i was told that my "up.date" was no longer up to date. i could say that i've been busy with various volunteer activities, packing, socializing, and church functions like melissa, but the truth is... i'm not busy, just boring.

we have started new members classes at church and so far (after our first class) it's interesting. i thought it was going to be painfully dull but i might've been wrong. there are seven of us in the class (norm and i being two) and four are/were from catholic backgrounds. like not just the type of catholics who say they're catholic but then don't know why they do what they do, but really spiritual and intelligent catholics. so i'm stoked because i have a lot of questions and i think it'll be really interesting to be in the class with them. plus, now i've met 5 other people at church (which brings the total number of people that i know to a whoppin 10 or so).

we've also started working more diligently on the upstairs. no, it's not done so don't ask! but we do have insulation in, and the closet/bathroom framed. i know it doesn't sound like much but...it's a lot for us ok! next is electrical wiring, plumbing, and then drywall! i can't wait to paint! so once it's all done, we'll have an extra room for guests, so come one, come all! well, maybe not all.

i'm also (supposed to be) working on that photography course i'm taking. i sent in my first assignments and am waiting til i see how i did on them before tackling the next assignment. i wanna make sure i'm on the right track.

anyhooo...

oh, in other exciting news, i just randomly booked an appointment for myself...to get a perm. is that retarded? i keep going back and forth...it could be a horrible idea but then again, it's only hair- what's the worst that could happen? please advise.

up.date.

so according to my ultrasound (no baby in there so don't ask. actually checking for kidney stones is actually the most common ultrasound procedure, not baby checking like everyone assumes) and my x-ray and my bloodwork...i'm (apparently) healthy! no softball size kidney stones waiting to torture me. so that's good news. on another note, i'll be coming down with bronchitis shortly cuz the lady next to me in the waiting room was hacking all over the place...

oh and someone better alert the authorities because i am now a criminal. i stole something. for the first time in my life (that i can think of.) and what gleeful treasure incited this escapade of delinquency?

this. a sticker on the counter at the doctor's office. it was premeditated too. i totally waited til the nurse's back was turned before i swiped it.
but before you get all judgemental...it's sparkly! ...and eeyore's actually smiling! ...and he's playing with bees...
i have no remorse! isn't that the worst kind of criminal? what's wrong with me? now some poor sick child is not gonna get their sticker at the doctor's! i'm horrible!

er?

so today i got really excited... my boss got an incubator donated for the sierra leone poultry project and set it up to see if it works... today, they brought home 100 eggs to put in it! so i was like, sweet! baby chickies! then i made the mistake of asking what they're gonna do with them once they hatch. she said, well, [her husband] has a really good way of just 'criiiiick' and she made a twisting motion with her hands. uhh... even now when i think about it, i'm not fully convinced that she was joking... she seemed completely serious...although that just doesn't make any sense to me. i asked if they just give them back to the people they got the eggs from and she just laughed. so, if i end up bringing home 100 chickens from work...ya'll know why. i'm quite concerned...

classy. yes. that's. me. but only cuz melissa sent me loonies that had to be used for cadbury eggs... but why do i look like an accident victim?

and that's all i have to say about that.

3.07.2006

take my photo off the wall if it just won't sing for you...

1) so i watched the end of "deal or no deal" last night...whoa, is that show intense or what? i'd never seen it before. and i also saw the end of "the apprentice" which i also have never really watched. also quite intense. i can't say that i'm so impressed with "the donald." he seems like a shmuck. (melissa, i know he's your hero but don't hit me!) like all interrupting people and stuff- i think he tries too hard to act tough. and what? like he's never screwed up before or come up with a bad idea or failed at managing some hopelessly ridiculous person? puh-lease.

2) i just ate the last red gummy lifesaver (actually, they're ghetto gummy lifesaver knock-off's called "gummy guy belly buttons." but they're still mad good.) and now all that's left are the yellow and green ones. gross. i tried really hard to eat them evenly to make sure the good ones lasted, but the yellow/green/blue just far outnumbered the red/orange/white. or to put it more simply: the yuckies outnumber the goodies. sigh.

3) every day on my way home from work i drive under powerlines with a pair of sneakers hanging off them. right over the middle of the road. every day they are there and they make me smile. but every day i expect them to be missing. oh the eternal pessimist.

3.06.2006

so just talked to my bro...they're just taking it day by day. riley was "awake" (opening his eyes) today, they checked his blood levels and it appears ok so they're not sure what the deal with his kidneys is- he's not peeing often. they're also gradually trying to take him off the bipap machine b/c it's to "assist" breathing, not to actually "do" it for him. and there's really no point in putting him on "life support" stuff. and one of his lungs is still collapsed or partially collapsed...but today i guess he's actually doing "ok" for today.

3.05.2006

my mom called today... i guess my brother is heading back down to georgia sometime soon. riley's back in the hospital (pneumonia again), has been unresponsive for a few days, they took him off the bipap machine(which helps him breathe) for less than an hour and his oxygen levels, etc dropped 50% which is really really bad. he's not officially on life support though. the machine just does some of the work for his breathing. so he's back on that now and his kidneys are failing. they have a neurologist coming to check on him tomorrow i think just to make sure they're not missing anything else. (like that it's not induced by any of the many meds he's on) but it doesn't look good. please pray especially for jeremy and brandy- i can't even imagine what they're going through. thanks...

so i have weird dreams

i'm sure most of you have heard some of my weird dreams at some point...(including the one where melissa snubbed me as a friend recently)

so recently i had a dream where i was smoking. like chain smoking. and thinking the whole time athat norm was going to be upset with me cuz he hates smoking. so i had this dream and then never thought about it.

until today. i had a doctor's appt and they asked me if i smoked. i hesistated (almost said yes!) cuz i had such a strong image/memory of me smoking. then said no. the doctor looked at me funny and then asked me again, like he thought i was lying! then he asked if i did any street drugs.

i'm such a freak.

we got three new fish (as if the hamilton zoo isn't crowded enough). they're called pea puffers! hehehe.

ps. i think the squirrel is still in there, i heard the noise again yesterday. or he comes in and out. they haven't taken the pipe thingy apart yet to look.
